[...] Lions, and tigers, and bears, oh my! Witches and goblins beware, oh my! Halloween is fast approaching and for some youngsters this holiday is more frightful than fun. For young children, a scary costume or gory mask can seem very real. Likewise, a familiar grown-up dressed in an unfamiliar mask takes on a new identity. Even a child who insists on dressing in a scary costume and mask can feel anxious and over stimulated. Hence, it is not uncommon that young children may experience more fear and anxiety during this time of the year, especially preschoolers, who have a hard time differentiating real from make believe. This article explores strategies and supports that help young children work through their Halloween fears. [...]

I really appreciate your comment, Roger! In fact, I would love to hear any more suggestions of other physical activities you might have that could be added to this list for our readers. Don't be shy!

It is great you have included several physical activities on your list. I especially like the walks (beach, woods, and for charity). Thanks!

Glad to hear you and your wife handled the situation so well, Joe! It's important not to rush to judgement about a teacher before objectively looking at the total picture first. Your decision to ease your son's pressure was not only wise, but also key to his healthy transition into first grade. Kudos to you! And thanks for sharing!

This was happening to one of my kids. The teacher wasn't scary at all though. She was very nice. He would just catch a wave of anxiety before school in the early part of his kindergarten year. My wife and I just tried to slow down the transition by easing off any pressure that he may have been experiencing and helping him see the progress that he was making. Thankfully, he adjusted fine and is doing great in first grade!
